Win a £500 presentation box of six Royal Tokaji 2016 sweet wines

Referred to as ‘The wine of kings and the king of wines’ by Louis XIV – The Sun King himself – Tokaji is Hungary’s gift to the world. An astonishingly fine sweet wine produced in and around the towns of Tokaj and Mád – some 200km north east of Budapest in what is the oldest classified wine region in the world – Tokaji is beloved of connoisseurs and collectors alike and has long been famed as a health-giving elixir.

Founded in 1989 by the greatest of all wine writers, Hugh Johnson, and others, the Royal Tokaji Company pioneered the restoration of the region’s reputation after the dark days of communism. Today the wines are better than ever and hugely sought after.

It is with great excitement, therefore, that we announce our latest competition in which one fortunate subscriber will win a hand-lacquered presentation box of six different bottles from the exceptional 2016 vintage. Comprising four rare single vineyard Royal Tokaji Company wines (namely Mézes Mály, Betsek, Nyulászó and Szt. Tamás), the classic Blue Label 5 Puttonyos Aszú and Gold Label 6 Puttonyos Aszú, this stunning collection is worth some £500 and is only available in miniscule quantities.

By any standards, these are remarkable wines, all marked by that glorious, inimitable honeyed sweetness and tempered by a keen, refreshing acidity. Think barley sugar, tarte tatin and even marmalade and you start to come close the delectable complexity these wines possess.
